Our story

Novara began with a debt we felt long before it had a name — the people who spend a lifetime caring for others are so rarely cared for with the same seriousness once their own turn comes. Here is that story, in our own words.

A letter from our founders

To every family trusting us with someone they love — this is why Novara exists, and why we believe we are the right hands for this work.

Where this story begins

Long before Novara had a name, it had a debt.

Each of us grew up around elders who quietly held entire families together — grandparents, aunts, uncles, the older members of a joint household who raised children, ran homes, kept festivals and routines alive, and did this for decades without ever being asked what they might need in return. We did not see this in one house. We saw it across the families we knew, in this community, in this economy, and it left something behind that none of us could quite shake off: the people who spend a lifetime caring for others are so rarely cared for with the same seriousness once their own turn comes.

That feeling sat with us for years before it became Novara.

What changed around us

In recent years, a pattern began repeating itself across the families we knew. More and more, sons and daughters — often the very people their parents had sacrificed to educate — were moving abroad, chasing opportunities that simply did not exist at home a generation ago. This is not a story of neglect. It is a story of a changing economy, of ambition, of children doing exactly what their parents raised them to do. But it left behind a quiet, difficult question: who looks after the parents who stay?

We noticed something else too. Even when children offered to bring their parents abroad, many elders said no — gently, but firmly. They did not want to leave the language they think in, the food they grew up on, the festivals, the neighbours who have known them for forty years, the small daily rhythms of a life they built with their own hands. They wanted to grow old the way they had always pictured growing old — in India, on their own terms, among people and places that already knew them. Asking them to leave felt, to everyone involved, like asking them to leave themselves behind.

That gap — between children who cannot always be present and parents who do not want to relocate — is where Novara began to take shape.

Why now, and why us

We will not pretend we arrived early to this conversation. Senior care in India has needed serious, dignified options for a long time, and Novara only began to take real shape in 2025, opening its doors in early 2026 — later than we sometimes wish it had been. We say this plainly because families weighing a decision this personal deserve honesty before anything else.

But arriving later did not mean arriving unprepared. Between us, our founders bring years of hands-on experience across both senior care and the hospitality industry — two disciplines that, together, are really what this work demands. Senior care teaches you how to hold someone's health and their dignity in the same hand, without letting one crowd out the other. Hospitality teaches you how to make a place feel like it belongs to the person living in it, rather than the other way around. Novara sits at the meeting point of both, built by people who have spent real years in each world and were unwilling to leave either one behind when they started this.

We did not begin Novara because it was the right time to start a business. We began it because we had watched this need go unmet for long enough, and because we finally had the experience, and the conviction, to try and meet it properly.

What we promise you

If you are reading this because you are far away — in another city, another country, another time zone — and thinking about someone you love who is growing older without you close by, we want you to know that we built Novara with you in mind as much as we built it for them.

We promise a home that does not ask your parent to become someone else to live in it — the food, the language, the quiet customs of an Indian household, kept intact. We promise care that is genuinely medical and genuinely warm at once, delivered by people who are trained for both. We promise transparency — in what things cost, in how your parent's day actually looks, in what we can and cannot do — because trust in this kind of decision is not built with reassurance alone; it is built with honesty, visibly kept.

And we promise this: choosing care for a parent is not a failure of love, and we will never let it feel that way. It is, more often, love finding its most practical shape — making sure someone who once looked after everyone is, finally, properly looked after themselves.

How we care

That promise takes a different shape depending on what a family actually needs, which is why we did not build one kind of care, but several. Assisted Living, for elders who want their independence held up by support that is always close by, never intrusive. Memory and Dementia Care, for the slower, more patient kind of attention that stage of life asks for. Transition and Rehabilitation Care, for the days right after a hospital discharge, when steady, skilled hands at home can mean the difference between a full recovery and a setback. Home Health Care, for those who wish to stay in their own house a while longer, with a nurse's visit rather than a move. And Palliative Care, given with the same gentleness we would want for our own parents, when comfort becomes what matters most.

Whichever door a family walks through first, it opens into the same house — and the same promise.

In closing

We are still early in this journey, and we say that with humility, not apology. Every family who trusts us with someone they love teaches us something we carry forward into how we care for the next one. That is the kind of company we want Novara to be — not one that arrived with all the answers, but one that showed up, stayed, and earned the answers one family at a time.

Thank you for considering us with something this precious.

With warmth and gratitude,

Our philosophy

We are small on purpose. A low resident count means named caregivers, not shift workers who rotate through. We would rather be honest about what we don't yet have — a long resident history, dozens of reviews — than pretend otherwise. What we can promise is attention: a founder who answers the phone, and a team that knows your parent's name before their room number.
